SOUL
SAMURAI
Set in
a post-apocalyptic New York where guns no longer have any power, SOUL
SAMURAI tells the story of a young samurai girl named Dewdrop and
her fight through the dangerous streets of a war-torn Kings County.
After avenging the death of her lover, Sally December, Dewdrop along
with her faithful sidekick Cert must now battle through a vampire-infested
Brooklyn to make it back home to the L.E.S. In a story mixing samurai,
70’s blaxploitation cinema, and vampire lore, SOUL SAMURAI sets
out to give the classic revenge tragedy some modern hip-hop style.
The original
live production was produced Off-Broadway by Vampire Cowboys and Ma-Yi
Theater in February and March 2009 at Here Arts Center where it was
lauded by critics and sold out to capacity crowds. The very popular
stage production starred Sheldon Best, Jon Hoche, Bonnie Sherman,
Paco Tolson, and Maureen Sebastian as Dewdrop.
