Who We Are:
WHAT IS VAMPIRE COWBOY?
Vampire Cowboys is an OBIE Award winning “geek theatre” company that creates and produces new works of theatre based in action/adventure and dark comedy with a comic book aesthetic. The company actively pursues the mating of different genres with varied theatrical styles to create an eclectic structure to tell its stories. The company aims to bridge the gap between mass media entertainment and the performing arts, exposing the community to challenging, thought-provoking live entertainment rooted in today’s pop-culture vernacular.

HOW WE STARTED:
Vampire Cowboys began with the first collaboration between artistic directors, Qui Nguyen & Robert Ross Parker, in spring of 2000, while graduate students at Ohio University. There, they formed the initial groundwork for the company’s mission, as well as created and produced the first Vampire Cowboys shows. In 2002, they moved to NYC where they would join forces with
producer/managing director Abby Marcus who engineered the company's producing structure and aggressive grassroots marketing initiative. A stalwart team of theatre-makers also came on board including award-winning resident designers Nick Francone, Jessica Shay, David Valentine, Shane Rettig, Matthew Tennie, and associate producer Daniel Rech. In 2006, Vampire Cowboys was awarded the Caffe Cino Award by the New York Innovative Theatre Awards honoring them for "consistently producing outstanding work". In 2007, they officially became a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible nonprofit organization and opened The Battle Ranch, their Brooklyn studio housing the company's office and rehearsal studios. In 2010, they won the prestigious Village Voice OBIE Award Grant.

Vampire Cowboys is a member organization of the Alliance of Resident Theatres/NY, League of Independent Theater/NY, and The Dish.

What We Do:

MAIN SEASON: Comprised of our fully-staged theatrical shows, special events such as Revamped, and our ongoing series The Saturday Night Saloon. We fully support our shows with both monetary and time resources believing that works of theatre shouldn’t be solitary events. As a producing entity, we believe shows should be allowed to run for their full life-span, be that one month or over the course of one year, and as a company we continue to support the development and productions of our works well-beyond their initial runs. To see what's coming up next, CLICK HERE!

FIRST BITE: A program dedicated to the development of plays that will be fully-staged and produced later in the season. The First Bite presentation consists of two weeks of script-based rehearsals and series of public performances focusing on the text of the play with a sprinkling of choreography, movement, and music. First Bite is an opportunity for our audiences to get a sneak peek of a Vampire Cowboys’ piece in development, and provides an email and post-show forum for audiences to give the artists feedback to aid in the growth of the play towards its run in the Main Season.

THE RABID VAMPS FIGHT STUDIO: This program is designed to train the company’s community of actors in stage combat, as well as be a place to foster new fight choreographers/performers. Because Vampire Cowboys is a theatre with a focus on stage combat, this studio also acts as a step in the solidification and creation of new movement principles in a physical environment that may end up on our mainstage. The Studio is open to any artists interested in physical theatre, not just Vampire Cowboys, allowing us to expand our community of actor/combatants as well as help the general community of NY actors cultivate their skills in stage combat.
